Symposium date and venue

The symposium will be held at the Sheik Zayed Conference Centre, FAO HQ, Rome, Italy, on 11-13 March 2025. The symposium will be in-person. The sessions will be broadcast, but there will not be any interactive online participation.

Participatory approach

All aspects of this symposium are participatory and so all participants can provide input before and during the symposium. This includes comments on the symposium documents. The draft EAFM Guidance document will be developed with dsRFMOs before the symposium and will be reviewed during the final day’s discussions. It, and the publications in the Journal of Northwest Fishery Atlantic Science will be the main symposium outputs.

Expression of Interest

The symposium panel session facilitators and speakers are by invitation. Owing to the targeted nature of the symposium, most will be or have been associated with RFMOs. We will circulate the Expression of Interest in early July 2024, but also wish to consider those we may have missed and invite such managers and scientists to complete the online Expression of Interest on the webpage. We will follow-up on the Expressions of Interest around 14 September 2024.

Registration is now open and will close on 31 December 2024. An online form is provided here. Expression of interest should be completed by all participants wishing to be session facilitators or speakers.
